Carbon
Climate change constitutes the biggest and most complex threat to our planet. We have a responsibility, as a business, to look critically across the entirety of our operations and supply chain, reduce our consumption of fossil fuels, and make meaningful changes to lessen our impact upon the planet.
Welcome Break have a robust structure of governance in order to implement our ESG and sustainability initiatives across the business. Matters relating to ESG are discussed at all of our monthly WB board meetings and, in addition to this, we have established a specialist ESG Committee who will monitor our progress and delivery of ESG strategies. Our ESG Committee meets quarterly.
Net Zero
Net Zero refers to the balance of carbon (and other greenhouse gases) emitted into the atmosphere and the carbon removed from it. Welcome Break is committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions (in scopes 1, 2, and 3) within our business by 2050. This commitment is in line with the UK Government Climate Change Act 2008 and the Paris Agreement 2016.
Proposed Roadmap to Net Zero Commitment between 2025 and 2027:
Phase 1
2025 - Measure scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions.
Phase 2
2025 - Complete materiality assessment and associated material topics. Confirm methodology for Net Zero transition plan.
Phase 3
2026 - Outline target development process.
Finalise targets.
Phase 4
2026/7 - Finalise Net Zero transition plan.
Carbon emissions for eligible entities have been reported as part of SECR (Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting). We report our carbon emissions following the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, which incorporates the scope 1, scope 2 and 3 market-based emission methodology together with an appropriate intensity metric and our total energy use of electricity, gas.
We also provide shareholders with reports on report carbon dioxide emissions resulting from energy use in our buildings, transport, and refrigerants.
