Strike a Chord: Welcome Break’s Harmonious Partnership with Electric Umbrella!
Welcome Break partners with Electric Umbrella
We are proud to announce that we have partnered with charity, Electric Umbrella, to bring live music to our motorway service areas.
The partnership was launched with the installation of a piano at Welcome Break South Mimms on the M25, which is now available for anyone to play. The initiative is part of Welcome Break's commitment to providing a range of services to enhance customers' journeys, and to supporting local communities.
Who are Electric Umbrella?
Electric Umbrella is a Hertfordshire-based charity who create amazing, live interactive music experiences with learning disabled people. In doing so, they hope to change the way the world looks at them, and others. Electric Umbrella is made up of 2,000 people, who take part in a range of co-created sessions with professional musicians and co-produce extraordinary performances in local settings. Which is exactly what they did at Welcome Break South Mimms, when the group came together to provide an interactive show to all those stopping off at the Service Area on the 4th April 2023.
Where can we find the piano at South Mimms?
The piano, which is located in the food court at the service area, was designed and decorated by Electric Umbrella in their bright and bold signature yellow. It is accompanied by information about the charity and is there not only to provide visitors with the opportunity to enjoy live music in a unique setting, but also to raise awareness of the work that Electric Umbrella does.
Vicki Phimister, Head of Marketing & Customer Insight at Welcome Break, said: “We are thrilled to announce our exciting partnership with Electric Umbrella to launch our new piano at South Mimms. This collaboration illustrates our commitment to developing creative initiatives that will benefit both customers and the wider community. We look forward to seeing the joy the piano will bring to customers and the team at Welcome Break. I can’t wait to see the talent playing the piano when I next pass through!”
Electric Umbrella CEO, Mel Boda, commented on the initiative: “At Electric Umbrella everything we do is about creating amazing music experiences with our members, so it’s brilliant to take these experiences further bringing music and fun to Welcome Break South Mimms. Our mission is all about changing the way the world looks at learning disabled people, and we are thrilled to be partnering with Welcome Break on this initiative.”
Will there be more pianos appearing at Welcome Break Service Areas?
Overall, the launch of the partnership between Welcome Break and Electric Umbrella has been a great success. It has brought live music to motorway service stations, provided a platform for some of Electric Umbrella’s members, and raised awareness of the important work that Electric Umbrella does. The initiative is a great example of how businesses and charities can work together to make a positive impact on society, and we look forward to expanding the partnership to more of our Service Areas this year.
