FAQ's
-
Pre-authorisation Fee:
To facilitate contactless payment, we temporarily reserve (pre-authorise) a fee from your bank account. The preauthorisation is not a charge, but a temporary hold, meaning that the funds held will be cleared by your bank within a few working days and Applegreen Electric will only bill you for the kWh used. This is used to ensure that the payment method is valid, and that there are sufficient funds available to pay for the charging session.
-
How do I get a receipt?
At present we do not have the facility to provide receipts. We are working on this and hope to provide an improvement in due course. Applegreen Electric is exploring feedback from drivers on this topic.
-
How does a consumer pay to use the charger?
Payment will be made by the user via contactless card payment at the charging unit on the Payter payment terminal. This allows for ‘Tap & Go’ functionality for bank cards, credit cards as well as phone apps. See instructions above on how to use.
-
Do I need an RFID card or Membership? Do I need an APP?
No, we offer ‘Tap & Go’ functionality.
-
What connectors/plugs are on the charger?
These stations are fitted with CCS and CHAdeMO connectors.
-
Is there a time limit on the chargers for the user?
Not at present – but consumers will generally charge to 80% of their battery as it is not recommended to go over that charge level at a fast charger. Dwell time is approximately 30 minutes – but depends on the battery size. Some larger batteries could take up to 1 hour to get from 20% to 80%.
-
I am not charging as quickly as I expected?
The Charger and your vehicle communicate to select the most appropriate charging rate. Charging speeds may vary due to battery charge level, current use of the Charging station and climate conditions. Your vehicle charges faster when the battery is at a lower state of charge and charging slows down as it fills up.
-
Who is Applegreen Electric (to distinguish it’s a different entity to the store)?
Applegreen Electric is a CPO and was established as a subsidiary of Applegreen Limited to focus exclusively on electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Applegreen is one of the largest service plaza operators, with over 550 sites across Europe and the US. The Welcome Break group is included within this and operates 44 services areas throughout the UK. The Applegreen Electric team is looking at the roll out of Applegreen Electric infrastructure and software across the UK, Ireland & US.

When will the next Applegreen Electric stations open?
Hopefully soon. Unfortunately, we cannot share when and where our next stations will open due to delays caused by external factors and parties.
