A look back at Welcome Break’s Investments in 2022
As we are nearing the end of 2022, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the projects we have delivered on this year and the investment we continue to make on our sites. Our business is about people, which is why we are committed to improving the customer and team member experience in all Welcome Break locations. This commitment has been at the heart of all our investments over the past 12 months.
With the addition of new brands, site refurbishments, re-images and upgrades of food units, and improved facilities – we are proud to share our wonderful achievements this year.
Welcome Break Derby East
Welcome Break Derby east reopened after receiving a complete refurb, including the introduction for the first time of a Greggs food offer , new forecourt shop, new modern toilets, and a Starbucks Drive – Thru opening in 2023.
Toilets
As part of our commitment to improving customer facilities, during the past 12 months we have completed new modern toilet refurbishments in:
- Warwick North
- Warwick South
- Birchanger Green
- Derby East
With Warwick North, Warwick South and Birchanger Green refurbs winningPlatinum Awards in the 2022 Loo Of The Year Awards!
In addition, the following sites also received Platinum Awards:

Starbucks
Our Starbucks projects have involved complete makeovers, with new decor, digital pricing screens, new coffee machines, increased customer seating areas and more space behind the counter for team members to work comfortably.

This year, we have refurbed eight KFC units within our Welcome Break locations, giving them a fresher, Finger Lickin’ Good feel!

Chopstix
We have continued to expand our Chopstix/Good Breakfast Hybrid offer with a further addition of two more units. This offering gives our customers a broad choice of food from early morning with full breakfasts right through to lunch and evening hot meal options

Several our WHSmith stores have had complete refurbishments. New signage, brighter stores, additional food to go, enhanced customer queuing system and a number of self-service -check outs are some of the noticeable changes you see when the sites below have reopened:

Waitrose & Partners
This year we have also introduced self serve -checkouts into Waitrose & Partners in the following locations:

Greggs
As well as opening a new Greggs unit in Welcome Break Derby East, we were excited to open another new Greggs in Welcome Break Peartreeas 2022 was drawing to a close!
Forecourts
In 2022 a number of Welcome Break Forecourts were also given a refurbishment:

- Fleet South
- Leicester Forest East North and South
- Woodall South
- Membury North and South

- Corley North and South
Too Good To Go
We have continued and expanded our incredible partnership with Too Good To Go this year! After starting with Waitrose in 2021, we have now launched Too Good To Go in three more brands throughout 2022:
- Burger King
- Chopstix
- Starbucks
Magic Bags are also available in our Waitrose & Partners stores, with the launch of Floral Bags too!
