Charities and Communities

Welcome Break Charitable Fund

The Welcome Break Charitable Fund was established in 2023 in order to give back to the communities in which Welcome Break operates. The fund was set up to create a balance between supporting local and national communities through fundraising, volunteering, and spreading awareness of our charity partners.

For every £1 that is raised for the charitable fund, 65p is donated to our charity partner, 30p is donated to our community grant fund, and 5p is donated to the National Emergencies Trust.

Throughout the year, Welcome Break team members organise events to raise awareness of the fund and to fundraise for it. Some examples of our fundraising activities include static cycles, bingo nights, or participation in skydives and marathons.

Vision and Mission of the Welcome Break Charitable Fund

Vision Statement

The Welcome Break Charitable Fund envisions communities where people are empowered to reach their full potential, leading healthier lives and enjoying emotional well-being. We see individuals coming together through sports and recreation, promoting sportsmanship and active living. Communities will benefit from improved spaces that enhance everyday life, and the natural environment, including rivers and water resources, will be responsibly cared for.

We are committed to rallying behind our team members, supporting their efforts to create lasting, positive change in the communities they serve.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Welcome Break Charitable Fund is to provide essential grants to organisations that promote healthier lifestyles, emotional well-being, skills development, and the protection of our natural environment, including rivers and water. We prioritise projects that align with our Vision, and have a significant local impact. We aim to create lasting positive change, enhance community well-being, and ensure that resources are channelled effectively to those in need.

Macmillan Cancer Support

In 2023, we established a charity partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillan support those living with cancer by providing physical, financial and emotional support.

National Emergencies Trust

Launched by His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, in 2019, The National Emergencies Trust is a charity dedicated to responding to UK disasters.

Within as little as 4 hours of a national emergency taking place, National Emergencies Trust will launch a nationwide fundraising appeal to ensure those affected receive financial aid as soon as they need it.

Community Grant Fund

The Welcome Break Community Grant Fund is dedicated to supporting local communities by investing in initiatives that make a real difference to the places our team members live and work in, and the communities we serve.

We encourage community groups, charities and non-profit organisations that meet our eligibility criteria to apply.

Applications are open 28th February and close 31st March

Friends of the Cancer Centre

Our Applegreen sites in Northern Ireland support Friends of the Cancer Centre. For 35 years, Friends of the Cancer Centre has been dedicated to making a real and meaningful difference to cancer patients and their families across Northern Ireland.

The charity aims to enhance the quality of support and patient care through funding additional nurses, supporting local research and providing practical support, such as financial grants, which help families through difficult periods of time.
