Welcome Break Pledges Continued Support to Macmillan

Date Posted 15/05/2025 Welcome Break Charitable Fund

We are thrilled to announce that Welcome Break will continue to partner with Macmillan Cancer Support in 2025. Our goal is to reach £1,000,000 in total donations throughout the 3-year partnership, cementing our commitment to making a difference to the lives of people affected by cancer.

Since partnering in 2023 as part of the Welcome Break Charitable Fund, we have raised over £420,000 for Macmillan. These donations go a long way in supporting the vital work the charity does and could fund six Macmillan nurses for an entire year.

In 2024, Welcome Break became the pitstop partner for the Mighty Hikes, with 47 dedicated colleagues participating and raising an extraordinary £13,000. Last year also saw the launch of Douglas the bear which is sold exclusively across our services and has so far raised £4,030. September marked our “Going Green for Macmillan” initiative with a focus on raising funds and awareness through various activities. An impressive £20,323.21 was generated across our sites, from coffee morning to fundraisers. Our support has continued to expand in the form of Macmillan care packages, delivering over 860 care packages in 2024 to people affected by cancer, thanks to the help of over 400 colleagues.

In addition to our fantastic fundraising achievements, Welcome Break has also provided over £319,000 worth of in-kind support by gifting marketing space to Macmillan. This generous contribution has enabled Macmillan to promote key events such as their Coffee Mornings and Mighty Hikes, helping to significantly raise awareness and reach for the incredible work they do.

We are proud of our achievements so far and look forward to reaching new goals with Macmillan. Our ongoing support will allow them to continue providing essential services to the 3.5 million people living with cancer across the UK throughout their cancer experience.

Nicola Marshall, People Director at Welcome Break said: “Our partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support has been profoundly impactful, and we are dedicated to supporting those affected by cancer as we work towards our goal of fundraising £1,000,000 across our 3-year partnership. I’m extremely proud that our colleagues are passionate about doing good in our local communities, so look out for our Coffee Mornings, Douglas the Bear, and an exclusive Mighty Hikes sign-up code at a Welcome Break near you.”

Michael Stickland, Head of Corporate Partnerships and Philanthropy at Macmillan said: “We are incredibly grateful to the staff and customers of Welcome Break for their phenomenal commitment to our partnership and their ambitious £1 million fundraising target. From Mighty Hikes pit stops to Teddy Douglas, they have done whatever it takes to support our work and to have already raised over £420,000 this year is truly inspiring. This partnership will make a tangible difference to the lives of the 3.5 million people living with cancer across the UK, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, receives the best possible support. Thank you, Welcome Break.”
